Sting's star-studded 30th anniversary Rainforest Fund benefit concert will have even more star power. According to Page Six, Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry has joined the gala's lineup.
As previously reported, the event, which takes place December 9 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, already had been confirmed to feature Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, James Taylor, Bob Geldof, Shaggy, Ricky Martin, rising R&B singer/songwriter H.E.R., Pose star Mj Rodriguez and a rare reunion performance by Eurythmics.
The concert, which will be emceed by actor Robert Downey Jr., is dubbed "We'll Be Together," after the 1987 Sting song of the same name, and will celebrate the music and videos of the 1980s and '90s.
Sting's wife, Trudy Styler, serves as producer of the event. The Rainforest Fund is committed to protecting the world's rainforests.
In other news, Debbie Harry will take part in another New York City benefit show being held December 14 at The Bowery Ballroom that will salute the 40th anniversary of The Clash's classic album, London Calling. The show's bill also features Living Colour's Vernon Reid and Corey Glover, Portlandia and ex-Saturday Night Live star Fred Armisen, Jesse Malin, longtime Counting Crows member Dave Immergluck, and many others.
The concert, dubbed "Gates of the West," will raise money for the Joe Strummer Foundation, which helps aspiring musicians in financial need, and Music & Memory, a nonprofit that provides music therapy to elderly people with memory-loss issues.
Meanwhile, Harry continues to promote her recently published memoir, Face It. She'll appear at two upcoming in-conversation events -- this Wednesday, November 20 at the Chapman Conference Center in Miami, and December 4 at Sixth & I in Washington, D.C. Blondie guitarist Chris Stein also will take part in the D.C. event. Visit DebbieHarry.com for details.
