Gonzo MultimediaBefore he formed his famous funk/soul/rock band The Family Stone, Sylvester Stewart, a.k.a. Sly Stone, was in a multi-racial high-school doo-wop group called The Viscaynes.

Now, a compilation featuring The Viscaynes' early doo-wop and gospel recordings titled Sly Before The Family Stone will be released on CD this Friday, November 15, while a limited-edition blue-vinyl version of the album -- pressed on high-quality 180-gram vinyl -- will follow in March of 2020.

Sly joined The Viscaynes around 1961, when he was 17, and the group went on to release a few regional singles before disbanding.

The album features a total of 19 tracks, and also appears to include other tracks that Sly recorded prior to the 1966 formation of The Family Stone.

"Searchin'"
